Veronica Tsepkalo and Svetlana Tikhanovskaya addressed the European Parliament Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.
In her speech, Veronica outlined the background to current events in Belarus. She called on the European Union to pay heed to the situation regarding the violation of women's rights in Belarus. In her speech Veronica said, “We live in a European country where women are beaten and raped with impunity, but they do not give up and continue to fight for their rights”.
She announced the creation of the BelarusWomen.foundation to support women who have defended their rights and suffered as a result, “Every day Belarusian women uniquely exemplify the struggle for such basic human values as freedom of speech and the right to choose. We are gathering the stories of these women so that the international community will be aware of this dark chapter in the history of Belarus."
Veronica called on the citizens of the European Union to assist the strong and courageous women of Belarus who need support today.
In addition to assisting suffering women, the Foundation also exists to promote the involvement of women in politics and the development of women’s leadership skills.
