Alena P., Minsk
In August 2020, Alena was a volunteer near pre-trial detention center at Akrestina. She was on duty on the night of August 11-12 - one of the most active days of the protests.
Standing in front of Akrestina she could hear the terrible screams of pain, and standing at the gate she heard numerous blows with truncheons.
Alena remembered, how they started to release some prisoners, who had been tortured and beaten. Many of them had broken arms and legs, as well as bruises on their face and body. Some were in torn clothes or barefoot. One of the girls said that she had not had even access to water for more than two days.
This horror has become a reality for thousands of Belarusian women over the past year!
And we must help them!
