Anja Reinalter (member of the German Bundestag) for Maryia Novik: “This is not the first time that the authorities in Belarus have taken action against the TUT.BY news portal. After the 2020 presidential elections, dozens of news portals and political websites were blocked. Newspaper editorial offices have had to close. The accusation of tax evasion has been used repeatedly in the past to intimidate and silence the media, human rights activists and independent trade unions.
This godparenthood is important to me. I stand with Maryia Novik and the many other people in Belarus who are fighting for press freedom, human rights and fair and free elections. It is important to me that we as Alliance 90/The Greens continue to work for an end to state violence and arbitrariness against the democratic opposition and civil society in Belarus. That is why I have taken on this godparenthood.”
Maryia Novik is deputy chief accountant at TUT.BY.
She was detained on 18.05.21, in the framework of a criminal case initiated against TUT.BY for tax evasion on an especially large scale (Part 2 of Article 243 of the Criminal Code).
On 11.03.22 Maryia Novik, TUT.BY deputy director Iryna Rybalka, and chief accountant of TUT.BY Anzhela Asad were released from pre-trial detention center. However, they are all under a non-disclosure agreement and undertaking not to leave the country. The earlier charges were not dropped.

По словам коллег Марии, она — опытный и строгий бухгалтер высокой квалификации, ответственно относится к своей работе, особенно когда дело касается новых проектов. У Марии есть дочь и совершеннолетний сын, а еще она любит животных: дома ее ждут кот и собака.
Мария была задержана 18.05.21 в рамках уголовного дела, начатого против TUT.BY за уклонение от уплаты налогов в особо крупном размере (ч. 2 ст. 243 Уголовного кодекса).
11.03.22 из СИЗО №1 вышли бывшие заместительница главного бухгалтера "ТУТ БАЙ МЕДИА" Мария Новик, заместительница генерального директора по общим вопросам Ирина Рыбалко и главный бухгалтер Анжела Ассад. Все они находятся под подпиской о неразглашении и подпиской о невыезде. Предъявленное ранее обвинение не снято.
