📢 Veronica Tsepkalo: Resisting Injustice and Fabricated Charges
We are indignantly informing you that on July 8, 2024, our founder, Veronica Tsepkalo, deprived of the opportunity to defend herself in court, was sentenced in absentia by a Belarusian so-called court to 12 years in prison.
Veronica was unjustly found guilty of “conspiracy to seize power” (Part 1 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus), slandering Alexander Lukashenko (Article 367), and discrediting Belarus (Article 369-1). She was also fined 40,000 Belarusian rubles ($12,200).
We are talking about yet another fabricated case and a trial that took place with a gross violation of basic human rights.
Veronica's work at the Belarus Women's Foundation plays an important role in the release of women political prisoners, women's empowerment and the protection of human rights. Her passion and dedication continue to inspire us all.
We call on the international community to stand with Veronica and support the fight for a free and democratic Belarus.
