In today's Belarus, the Miss Belarus beauty contest not only spits in the faces of beautiful Belarusian women, but also shows total lack of respect for society as a whole.
Lukashenka's fiery speeches and his proclaimed “love" for women did not prevent him from humiliating, beating and imprisoning Belarusian women who had the courage to express their opinions after the 2020 elections.
Olga Khizhinkova, for example, a previous winner of the Miss Belarus contest, was severely repressed by the criminal regime. She received a 42-day prison sentence and was held in inhuman conditions as “punishment”.
The Miss Belarus competition supports the sexual exploitation and objectification of women by supplying young women for the dictator and his junta. Treating women as a commodity is unacceptable in a European country of the 21st century.
We are asking the entire world community not to stand aside, and to support the women of Belarus in the fight for their rights. We ask you not to recognize the Miss Belarus contest, and prevent those involved from being part of any of the world's leading beauty contests.
