The ZA TUMANAM collection was presented at @Berlinfashionweek on March 19, 2022.
Alena Steinke wanted to dedicate her new ZA TUMANAM/BEYOND THE FOG collection to women political prisoners of Belarus.
However, in the process of her work, a war broke out... Therefore, she dedicates this collection to the women of Belarus and Ukraine and their incredible creative power...
The theme of the collection is Mother Earth, the feminine principle that gives life, strength, protection, it feeds and waters those in need. The colors remind us of the Belarusian landscape, green swamps and coniferous forests, blue lakes, and rivers, the dark red sun rising from the horizon. The swamp is like a mythical creature, ready to defend its own inhabitants and destroy strangers who came with the war. The fog will soon clear up and the sun will rise. The earth will come to life, the swamp waters will turn into fast-flowing rivers with crystal-clear waters.
The theme of the partisans runs in the background. Swamps and forests are a refuge, shelter, and home for them. Belarusians continue their struggle for freedom, underground and abroad. Today Belarusians fight not only for their freedom but also for the freedom of Ukrainians. A perfect example is the Partizanka group by Yana Shostak and many other initiatives by Belarusians who have been volunteering on the Ukrainian border since the first day of the war.
Many Belarusian women activists had to flee to Ukraine to avoid repression and now they have to flee from Ukraine as war refugees. Belarus Women's Foundation and Fashion for Freedom project urge you to donate money to help repressed Belarus women with children who found themselves in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
