Zoya: new participant of the #KnittingFreedom initiative

Meet the participant of the #KnittingFreedom initiative Zoya!

Zoya is a pensioner, an ex-university teacher. She wasn't interested in politics until the start of the 2020 election campaign.

In 2020, Zoya, like many other Belarusians, found hope and faith in change.

After August 9, anger and indignation from the boundless cruelty of the police made Zoya take part in peaceful marches.

At the same time, Zoya tells how after those terrible days she felt a sense of unity and freedom, "that unforgettable free air" when thousands of free Belarusians marched all over Belarus.

Zoya, like thousands of Belarusians, was forced to leave her homeland to avoid repression.

But she does not lose hope, she is waiting for changes and continues to express her disagreement with what is happening in Belarus by all available means:

"They don't like the combination of white and red? So we will wear these colors and eat tomatoes with sour cream. The page doesn't turn over."

Her biggest hobby in life is knitting. Zoya was taught to knit by her mother. She is proficient in rare techniques such as Irish printed lace and swing. Zoya knits everything for herself, from a summer hat to a coat, from openwork shawls to a warm jacquard skirt.

The video shows white-red-white snoods and mittens from Zoya:

To order mittens or snood, write to contact@belaruswomen.org and/or наш chat bot @BWF_stories_bot to discuss the order details.
