#10 Palina Sharendo-Panasiuk

Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, born 21.03.1975, 2 children, Brest. Palina has been constantly moved from one cell to another. For some time she was on purpose put in cell a with HIV-positive women. That was another way of putting psychological pressure on her. In the cells, there are wooden shelves with metal structures suspended from the wall instead of beds. Every day, Palina is forced to roll up the mattress and to stay only in a sitting or standing position: if she nonetheless lies down, there may be punishment in the form of being kept in a punishment cell. The punishment cells are located in the basement, there is no daylight and limited air supply. It is also forbidden to read books and newspapers there. Palina has been kept in such conditions for more than 30 days during the entire period of her detention. Palina is marked with a special yellow mark, instead of a regular white tag. Prisoner tagging is used to group and socially stigmatize prisoners. Appropriate tags should make it easier for staff to identify prisoners. It is hard to say what other tortures might be being done on Palina, since communication is practically interrupted. The lawyer also signed non-disclosure documents. Palina and Andrey are psychologically influenced by the state authorities. There are constant threats from the guardianship authorities that the family will be deprived of parental rights and the children will be taken to an orphanage.
