“I was very scared, that when I went out, they would tell me, that people stopped protesting”.
Natalia, 37 years old, lives in Minsk, not married, doesn’t have children. On 12 September 2020, she was detained at the women’s march. During detention, Natalia was wearing a white-red-white hoodie. The girl had to turn it inside out as she was afraid of “special treatment”.
Natalia was detained on Saturday. She didn’t agree with the protocol and didn’t plead guilty. The trial of Natalya took place via video chat, and she didn’t see the judge's face. She was sentenced to 11 days in prison for her “crime”.
Natalia wasn’t beaten, but throughout her arrest she faced rudeness and degrading treatment.
After leaving the detention center, Natalia didn’t give up and continued to fight for free Belarus. Her interview is the story of thousands of brave women, who were able to overcome their fear.
