Maria Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino (1933–2009) was a Filipino politician and the first female president of the Philippines between 1986 and 1992. She succeeded dictator Marcos and became the country’s first female president.
Corazon Aquino emerged as a leader of the opposition after her husband was shot dead at Manila Airport in 1983 while trying to return to the country. He intended to run in the presidential election, but Corazon took part instead.
