Get started today by sharing visuals, messaging and more from our 16 Days social media package:
The women of Belarus have first-hand experience of violence. For over 28 years we have had to put up with an abuser in our house who has been using his regime to torture our families and us. Just like any other abuser Lukashenka refuses to take “no” for an answer and keeps trying to convince us that it is us who is to blame and that we deserve torture and beatings.
Lukashenka turned violence into his official ideology and deliberately targets physical and psychological vulnerability of women by placing them in inhuman detention conditions, by taking away their children and by destroying their lives. Repressions against women bring to a halt whole sectors where women make up the majority of the workforce: education, healthcare, social services and media.
Lukashenka deeply hates Belarusian women and like many other tyrants, when losing their grip on power, he will stop at nothing.
The global movement to end violence against women cannot succeed while more than 4 million women are being held hostage by an abusive and torturing dictator in the centre of Europe.
And we must put an end to this!

On November 25th, 2022 in frame of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence | UN Women a Rally of Belarusian Fem Activists (belaruswomen.org) under the slogan "NO WOMAN IS FREE UNTIL ALL WOMEN ARE FREE"
The rally presented a 4-meter banner with the names of Belarusian women political prisoners. At the end of the event the rally participants sang a Belarusian folk song "Green Cherry".
Participants of the rally stated:
- In Belarus, hundreds of political prisoners and repressed women went through detentions and torture in prisons for their civic position
- Home violence stats hidden by Lukashenka's regime
- Almost all women's NGOs that helped victims of domestic violence eliminated by Lukashenka's regime
- Seeking help from the police, whose officers beat and torture detained women, is dangerous
- Victims of violence in Belarus are left without protection and support
- Women around the world are demanding an end to violence, but politicians and states ignore this issue, and victims of abuse are left alone with their problem
"We are convinced that violence against women is not just a "patriarchal tradition" - it leads society to repression and wars"
