International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

On June 26, 1987 the United Nations declared Day in Support of Victims of Torture. On this day, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was adopted.

This convention is regularly violated by Lukashenka's junta and his hangers-on. Since August 2020, tens of thousands of Belarusians have been subjected to torture that has been widely (and still is) used against protesters. Detained Belarusians are kept in inhuman conditions, they are regularly tortured, beaten and deprived of basic needs. The detainees are not given clothes, shoes and food. The political prisoners are marked in order to "distinguish" them from all the rest and subject them to greater humiliation and torture.

We, Belarus Women's Foundation, express our solidarity with all the people who have faced torture and inhuman treatment. We will never forgive and forget Lukashenka's junta torture and beatings of civilians. And we know that all those responsible will definitely be punished.

We urge the world community not to stand aside. We urge to bring to justice all the perpetrators and stop torture! Torture in the center of Europe in the 21st century cannot and should not be acceptable.

End torture in Belarus by signing & sharing this petition!
