March 8 is a day of struggle for women's rights, a day of solidarity, a reminder that equality and freedom do not come naturally.
What does this day mean for women living under dictatorships?
Can we talk about rights when women are thrown behind bars for solidarity and independent thinking?
About freedom - when their lives are shattered, their children taken away, and they are locked in freezing prison cells?
About equality - when their voices are declared a crime?
On International Women's Day, March 8,
there are 167 women political prisoners in Belarus (belaruswomen.org)
These women fought for truth and justice. They dreamed of freedom and paid the highest price - they became hostages of the Lukashenka regime, stripped of their rights, dignity, and freedom itself.
Since 2020, 1,795 women in Belarus have faced politically motivated criminal prosecution (dissidentby.com). The repression continues.
Like all dictators, Lukashenka fears women who speak the truth. He fears their voices. He fears their solidarity. That is why his regime seeks to break them, erase them, and silence them.
Belarus is a warning to the world
Today, in Europe, Belarusian women are hostages of dictatorship. Who will be next?
Freedom and rights do not disappear overnight - they erode through indifference, compromises with injustice, and a false sense of security.
What seems like a distant threat today may become your reality tomorrow.
Freedom must be defended, or it will be taken away
Rights should never be taken for granted.
The fight for justice is everyone's responsibility
Happy International Women's Day – a day of struggle and solidarity!
