#26 Alexandra Kasko

“I think yes. I consider it to be a torture. It was…

Nothing but torture happened there”

Alexandra Kasko, Volkovysk. Alexandra worked as a nurse at the Volkovysk hospital, and was fired, allegedly of her own free will. The girl is constantly detained for taking part in protest actions, sometimes she cannot even go out, risking ending up in the police department.

Last time she was detained at the end of February 2021. The girl was sentenced to 11 days in prison and fined 25 base rates (240 euro) under Article 23.34 (illegal public events).

In prison Alexandra faced a “special attitude”. All the things she brought with her were taken away. It was very cold in the cell, almost impossible to sleep at night, the girl was constantly woken up and forced to come to the door. For 11 days, Alexandra was only able to go to the shower once; she did not have access to hygiene items (except for soap). The girl spent more than three days absolutely alone.

Despite the fact that police officers tried to intimidate and break Alexandra, the girl does not despair and continues to fight for a free Belarus. Her story is a story of fearlessness and courage, as well as of the desire to keep fighting no matter what.
