Katsiaryna Brukhanava is a citizen of Ukraine, from the city Kherson. She studied in China, graduated from the university there in 2015, and in 2016 moved to Belarus. In Belarus she worked as a translator from Chinese.
Katsiaryna was detained while crossing the Belarusian border. They demanded that she give her phone for verification; she provided iit with the passwords. Belarusian security forces found that on March 30, 2022, she sent 2 videos to the chatbot of the Zerkalo editorial office. The video she made showed the movement of Russian military equipment near Minsk.

The trial of Katsiaryna took place in October 2023 in the Brest Regional Court.
On October 13, 2023, Judge Andrey Siz sentenced her to 2.5 years in a penal colony.
On the evening of June 28, 2024, sudden information emerged about the release of five political prisoners from Belarusian colonies. The Ukrainian authorities secured the release of their citizens through a prisoner exchange. As a result, Natallia Zakharanka, Pavel Kupriyenko, Lyudmila Goncharenko, Katsiaryna Brukhanava, and a figure in the "Machulishchy case," Nikolay Shvets, were freed. The conditions of the exchange have not been disclosed. It is noted that the Vatican participated in the release. The freed political prisoners were brought to Ukraine on 28.06.24, with their photos appearing in the media from the Zhulyany airport.
Екатерина Брюханова — гражданка Украины, родом из г. Херсон. Она училась в Китае, окончила там университет в 2015 году, а в 2016 переехала в Беларусь. В Беларуси работала переводчицей с китайского.
Екатерину задержали при прохождении беларуской границы. От нее потребовали дать на проверку телефон, она предоставила его сотрудникам вместе с паролями. Беларуские силовики нашли, что 30 марта 2022 года она отправила 2 видео в чат-бот редакции «Зеркало». На видео было передвижение российской военной техники под Минском, которое она сама сняла.

Суд над Екатериной состоялся в октябре 2023 года в Брестском областном суде.
13.10.23 "судья" Андрей Сиз вынес приговор 2,5 года колонии.
Вечером 28.06.24 появилась внезапная информация об освобождении из белорусских колоний 5 политзаключенных. Украинские власти добились освобождения своих граждан по обмену как пленных. Так на свободе оказались Наталья Захаренко, Павел Куприенко, Людмила Гончаренко, Екатерина Брюханова, а также фигурант "дела в Мачулищах" Николай Швец. Условия обмена не сообщаются. Отмечается, что участие в освобождении принял Ватикан. Освобожденных политзаключенных доставили в Украину 28.06.24 — в СМИ появилось их фото из аэропорта "Жуляны".
