Belarus: 9 Women Political Prisoners Released | 16.09.2026 | Part 23


The Belarus Women’s Foundation welcomes the release of 25 political prisoners in Belarus, including 9 women political prisoners. Those released were brought to Lithuania.


Part 23 — 16 September 2026: 9 Women Political Prisoners Released

Among the women released are 2 mothers of minor children (MoM) and 1 woman of retirement age (RA).

Their release is an important humanitarian step for the women themselves, their families and loved ones, who have waited for this moment for years.


We particularly acknowledge the sustained efforts of the U.S. administration, President Donald Trump, and his Special Envoy John Coale to secure the release of political prisoners in Belarus. Giving this humanitarian objective a high priority and maintaining direct diplomatic engagement have contributed to the release of hundreds of people through a series of agreements.


International attention and diplomatic engagement remain critically important to securing the release of further political prisoners.




At the same time, 118 women remain imprisoned in Belarus on politically motivated grounds. Among them are:


The Belarus Women’s Foundation continues to advocate for:

  • the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners;
  • priority humanitarian release for women whose continued imprisonment places them at particular risk;
  • the full rehabilitation of released political prisoners;
  • an end to politically motivated persecution in Belarus.


No woman should be imprisoned for her civic position, expressing her views, or engaging in peaceful activities.
